Book Review

I have a little tiny one in private lessons right now.
She says “all I want is tricks. Cute tricks, fun tricks, if she can do anything practical, that would be a plus!”bxp26147

So after exhausting my supply of tricks, I started looking for more things for her to do and came across

    Dog Tricks, Step by Step

by Mary Ann Rombold Zeigenfuse and Jan Walker.DSCF3086

I LIKE this book. There are many dog tricks that are just what I call too-too for me and the practical world in which I live. I will never – I promise you – do a handstand while my dog jumps through my upside down spread legs. I show that trick to people in my advanced/trick classes and so far none of them have wanted to try it either.
But many of the ones in here are what I and/or puppy people Want. We want the dog to wait at the door. Yes, that is a trick/skill. 200543441-001
Someone in my class right now wants her dog to go turn the light on and then wake up the kids. Can be done.
Everyone thinks its hysterical to put food on a dog’s nose and have them balance it. Personally I think everyone has a warped sense of humor! But this book shows you how.AA046709
From sit to dance to jump to find, this book covers the way to teach them all.

I like the step by step way it shows you. Must know THIS before you can do that. None of the methods used are harsh – tho there is no clicker training involved in any of them. While I don’t mind, sometimes enjoy, clicker training, its refreshing to see a book that does tricks without them. And I LIKE that they emphasize fun times and short sessions. 42-16421589
